Sybase appoints new staff for channel play

Database vendor, Sybase, has brought on three new staff to lead a channel recruitment drive.

Stephen Dolan will tackle the director of alliances and channels position. He will focus on the company's partnerships with OEMs, resellers and system integrators.

Dolan brings 25 years of experience in sales and channel management to the newly created position. He was previously a sales manager Asia-Pacific for IT solutions company, Levi, Ray and Shoup.

Sybase has also recruited Ian Schumann as a strategic account manager.

He will be based in Canberra to focus on government partnerships, according to managing director, Robert Zalums.

"Our channel strategy needed to be reviewed and given better definition," Schumann said. "Dolan is reviewing how we'll go to market and the type of partners we need. Schumann will be looking for partners to help him craft solutions for government organisations."

Sybase has also appointed Susan Harden as a pre-sales consultant. All three jobs are newly created.

Zalums said the company was going through a growth phase, expanding out of its traditional database business into a broader range of technology such as mobile devices, computers, PDAs and radio frequency devices.

This had prompted the need to raise its Australian profile and acquire more partners, he said.

Sybase was keen to recruit ISVs to develop mobility solutions for organisations, as well as solutions for specific vertical areas like services, mobile sales, transport and logistics, Zalums said.

The vendor was also looking for partners that sold business intelligence solutions such as data warehousing for its PowerDesign and WorkSpace accelerator solutions.

In return, Sybase planned to launch various programs in marketing, information awareness, webinars and a partner conference next year, Zalums said.
