NetComm ramps up WA distribution

NetComm has added Edsys to its WA distribution list to revitalise coverage in that state.

The Perth-based outfit will join national wholesalers, Ingram Micro, Cellnet and TodayTech and carry the vendor's entire networking range including ADSL modems, wireless products and VoIP.

Edsys had a long history of buying OEM modems from NetComm, general manager, Greg McDougall, said. The distributorship was a natural progression. "NetComm is not distributed particularly well over here so we thought it was a good opportunity," he said.

McDougall said he hoped the new deal would increase annual revenues by $800,000. Despite already distributing for D-Link, he insisted there would be no major conflict.

"We just needed a second choice, particularly with their VoIP service, which is one area that NetComm is really strong in and something that really attracted us," he said.

The company is pursuing VARs that cater for small to medium organisations to provide the new range to its customers. "We are targeting ones that provide a real service to customers," he said.

NetComm managing director, David Stewart, said the appointment was part of a broader push to strengthen the company's distribution line-up.

"We have state-based distributors [in other states] and needed a WA-based partner purely for coverage," Stewart said.
