Sun and Wyse strike thin client deal

Wyse Technology and Sun Microsystems have formed an alliance that will see Wyse SV thin clients bundled with Sun's secure global desktop software (SGDS).

The joint venture would provide partners with an end-to-end solution, Wyse vice-president of Oceania and South East Asia, Rick Ferguson, said.

"Our joint VARs, resellers and integrators are now able to offer end-users a much more streamlined and secure solution to meet a broader set of customer needs," he said.

Both companies distribute products through Alstom IT, which would have access to the new range.

The products would still be sold as Wyse and there would be no OEM or re-branding, Ferguson said. Sun would also continue to produce its Ray thin client products.

"We are prepared to work together to jointly market and sell our combined thin client device," he said.

Both companies would be looking to target the finance, education, government and travel market sector with the new product line.

"It also opens up the door for Sun to have access into heterogeneous environments where it has traditionally been stuck," Ferguson said.

Wyse is also considering bundling thin clients with Sun's Fire 2100, 4100 and 4200 servers.
