NetApp goes on security drive

NetApp has launched a new security program to educate enterprise customers about the need for security technology within the storage space. To coincide with the push, the vendor is also looking to boost its channel partner skills in the areas of networking, security and storage.

Area director for South Asia, Simon Green, said the Uncompromised Security Initiative was designed to change the way companies perceived the whole data security network.

"It is not just about network compliance, it's about the broad view and delivering security across the data environment, irrespective of what storage infrastructure customers have," he said. "Our ability to work with our partners to tie this all together is critical for our ability to reach the broader market."

The program would be focused on a select product set, including Data ONTAP and NetCache. It would also be providing more information about the Decru DataFort storage security product, which was brought into the NetApp portfolio after its acquisition of Decru for $US272 million in August.

As well as providing a comprehensive product roadmap, the company would also roll out educational tools, such as seminars, tutorials and other forums concentrating on security.

Director of marketing and alliances network appliance ANZ, Mark Heers, said the initiative would help NetApp branch into new market areas using Decru's data encryption technologies.

These were complementary to partners in the spyware and virus market space, he said.

Alongside existing resellers, Heers said the company would also be looking to recruit partners in the data storage division that boasted of high-level skill sets in security and networking.

"We have always been conservative with the volume of channel partners we bring on because we try to ensure that we have a very strong relationship and value proposition with the ones we do business," he said.
