D-Link brings on consumer business manager

D-Link has appointed its first consumer business manager to strengthen its focus on the consumer channel.

Tony Hospes will be responsible for developing relationships in the consumer arena, including mass merchants, online catalogue houses and retailers. He is also charged with deploying marketing and channel initiatives throughout 2006 such as cashback schemes for end-users and product bundling opportunities to help increase reseller margins.

Before taking on the position at D-Link, Hospes was previously a sales manager for Swann Communications and Targus.

Hospes said his first point of focus would be to identify ways in which D-Link could participate in the swell of convergence products hitting the consumer sector. This could see the vendor bring on more networking partners.

"Traditionally companies that have never sold networking products are now tapping into convergence to be able to provide new solutions for a broader market," Hospes said. "We have also got to be aware of new markets for D-Link to enter."

He also planned to re-establish relationships with its traditional partners by providing more supportive training resources.

"It's a balancing act where we need to be a bit more loyal to our existing partners and find new ones that would generate new growth and business," Hospes said.
