System integrator, UCMS Solutions, has appointed Steve Sparkes as its new managing director.
He replaces Auckland-based Mark Maddren, who was also a company founder. Maddren has stepped down into a non-executive director's role but will still be involved with company strategy and customers.
"We have consciously moved the managing director role back into Sydney, which will hopefully bring us more focus in the Australian market," Sparkes said.
He hopes to replicate the company's success in New Zealand and plans to take advantage of its relationships with technology partners to help grow the company.
In the long term, Maddren wants to tackle acquisitions or mergers to expand UCMS, but his immediate concern will be achieving organic growth within Australia.
"The business is very solid in New Zealand and I'm going to leverage that and replicate it," Sparkes said.
His main focus in the new role would be to include additional sales and technical resources.
Sparkes anticipates recruiting about a dozen sales and business development staff within the next year including service and technical delivery staff.
