Sydney-based Avnet Computing Components has brought on the Asus range of AMD-based notebooks, motherboards and CPUs to bolster its range of AMD-based products.
A division of Avnet, the distributor focuses on selling AMD processors and related products into the whitebox market.
Country manager, Michael Yee, said the addition of Asus enhanced its product portfolio and would enable partners to retrieve AMD CPUs and compatible branded motherboards from a single source.
"At the end of the day, this deal will also help us to sell greater amounts of other components," he said.
Yee will look to bundle the Asus range with AMD processors and Kingston memory.
"Asus notebooks are a little different to what we offer, but I consider them to be complementary because the target market is still the traditional whitebox manufacturer," he said.
Yee said the company would look for more whitebox partners to take the products to market.
Asus country manager, Ted Chen, said Avnet's focus on AMD would lead the manufacturer into a new market.
"Our current distributors are more Intel oriented and we needed a dedicated AMD distributor in this market," he said. "Avnet has a very strong presence in the AMD field."
Chen said he would consider increasing the range of products Avnet carried depending on how sales progressed.
Avnet and Asus will hold product launches in Sydney and Melbourne this week with special offers that included notebook deals and bundling packages.
