Shriro Australia has been appointed as the exclusive distributor of UK-based Disruptive Technology Channels' iPod accessory brand, Gear4.
Shriro general manager of electrical products, Brian Humphris, said the company already distributed Creative Labs and the deal would strengthen its presence in the iPod market.
"The strength of the brand in Europe has made it easier for us to offer it to local computer resellers and retailers because they tend to look at overseas markets to find out leading brands," he said.
The Gear4 range of iPod accessories includes a table-top speaker and docking station, micro-speakers, protective plastic cases and charging devices.
Humphris wants to distribute the products through IT resellers as well as mass merchants such as Myer, JB Hi-Fi and Dick Smith Electronics.
Distruptive Technology Channels has set up an office in Sydney that will be headed by managing director, Jamie Dudderidge. He said the company saw a lot of potential in the Australian market and appointed Shriro due to its vast retail presence.
"With the iPod industry ever diversifying, their penetration into various different retail channels was one of the strengths. It also has a network of reps in every state," he said.
Managing director, Tom Dudderidge, said he planned to grow the business significantly and hoped to be number two in the iPod accessories market by Christmas.
"With Shriro we've been able to get into some of the big retail names, which we wouldn't have been able to achieve so quickly on our own," he said. "This will allow us to accelerate our plans for the Australian market quite significantly."
