Westan gets into VoIP software

Blue-Wireless has signed Westan to distribute its software-based VoIP PBX system, SoftBX.

The distributor joins a group of existing partners already working with the software including Unitel, Syncretize and The Techs, Blue-Wireless CEO, Jerry Bloom, said.

"What makes Westan different to the others, however, is that it's the only one building SoftBX into an appliance," he said. "The others are either taking the software and installing it on hardware already at a site, or tailoring hardware around it."

Westan executive director, Kamil Aghtan, confirmed the distributor was taking a new route with the software.

"In terms of VoIP, we've always done a lot of work in the enterprise space. We wanted to take that experience and try to bring something to the SME space that's easy to use," he said.

Westan is building the software into mini PC, Intel Core 2 Duo or Xeon server-based appliances, depending on the size of the solution required.

While the distributor is looking at the SoftBX appliances to covers its SMB and SME resellers in the short term, Bloom said the two businesses had also been discussing the possibility of larger solutions.

SoftBX can scale from four to 128,000 ports, depending on its configuration.
