Quantum country manager to lead the charge for new data storage and management business

Craig Tamlin has exited his post as Quantum country manager to return to his home state of WA and take up the top job at SpectrumData.

The CEO role will see Tamlin lead attempts to snare new commercial customers for the data storage and data management business.

"It's all about a change of focus in the organisation," he said. "Currently, about 70 per cent of revenue comes from the oil and gas base, and we'd be looking to shift that to where commercial and government was on par with the oil and gas."

Tamlin said it had been hard to leave Quantum - part of a two decade career on the east coast of the country - but the SpectrumData opportunity had been too good to give up.

Prior to joining Quantum, Tamlin worked for IBM, both in Australia and North America.

"I was at Quantum for seven years and achieved quite a lot," he said. "We went from a virtual unknown to the country's largest independent data protection company."

Tamlin estimated the local data storage and data management market was worth up to $30 million. A typical SpectrumData sale could occur when the reseller was installing new storage equipment and was asked by the customer about archiving the data from its old equipment.

He is also keen to ramp up channel partner numbers towards 300.
