Data security vendor grows local partner base

PGP cites rising demand for data protection in Australia

Data protection vendor, PGP Corporation, has brought on two local partners as part of plans to grow its global channel base.

PGP regional manager, Jamie Brown, said Melbourne-based TLC Data Security and Sydney-based Sense of Security were selected through a rigorous process as being a good fit with its company culture.

The partners have had substantial PGP certification training and are required to have one or two engineers focused on the PGP portfolio. Brown said PGP was being selective with channel partners because the Australian market was small, and it didn't want its partners stepping on each other's toes.

He claimed the rising demand for data protection would expand the customer base for its solutions. PGP produces data and email encryption software for the enterprise market.

Sales director at TLC, David McDonald, said the company wanted to work with PGP to gain a national presence and customer base. Security and encryption solutions were most interesting to finance and superannuation, health, insurance, mining and manufacturing industries, he said.

Security consultant at Sense of Security, Murray Goldschmidt, said loss of sensitive information was a serious issue. He quoted research from that IT Policy Compliance Group in the US that found 68 per cent of organisations experience six losses of sensitive data a year.

Goldschmidt said the arrangement with PGP opened up opportunities for Sense of Security to provide consultancy services and chalk up more businesses.
