Dell on the hunt for new channel chief

Still no local launch date for PartnerDirect

It might not have officially launched a partner program in Australia yet but Dell is already on the lookout for a new channel chief. The news follows the departure of its channel strategy director, Joel Montgomery.

A spokesperson confirmed Montgomery had left the company of his own accord and was going to travel. The process of finding a new channel strategy director was already underway, he said, and that person will report to local managing director, Joe Kremer.

Although the hardware vendor is best known for its direct sales model, it has been courting the channel in markets around the world since company founder, Michael Dell, resumed the CEO's role at the start of last year following a string of disappointing financial results.

Its global PartnerDirect channel model has already been rolled out in the US, Europe and parts of Asia. It was announced in India last month but as yet there's still no confirmation of an Australian launch.

Dell already works with a small number of Australian channel organisations but they largely provides services and support for its direct sales. Providing resellers with access to its hardware would help it compete better with established channel players like HP and IBM in the SMB market.

Last week, Dell announced Officeworks as its first official retail partner in the Australian market.
