Web hosting specialist WebCentral Complex has launched a new service called Managed Exchange, which it claims can reduce electronic messaging costs and provide significant savings.

Managed Exchange provides anywhere, anytime access to Microsoft Outlook e-mail, including shared functions such as public folders, shared calendars, contacts and tasks.

Staff can work in real time from anywhere by using a desktop, laptop or handheld PC with a Web browser or a GPRS-enabled mobile phone.

WebCentral claims this will offer significant savings for its customers by removing the need for investment in hardware, software licences, support and maintenance.

It claims a 110-seat installation case study showed a saving of 50 per cent in electronic messaging costs over three years.

"When we launched in March we told the market there was a gap between the services WebCentral was offering and those of the major outsourcers," said Sally-Anne Stansfield, general manager of WebCentral Complex. "We are servicing clients that need slightly more tailored solutions, either because they have a high level of traffic or need high levels of availability and security management."

Stansfield said clients already on the Complex books include a major Australian insurer, a large manufacturer, a multinational fast food retailer and a leading telecommunications firm. She added that WebCentral Complex is on track to meet its targets of 16 installations sold by June 2003 together with revenues of $4 million.

"Complex takes WebCentral products and applies the same methodology to, say, 2,000 seats. That allows IT departments to focus on what their company does rather than what they need to do with the Managed Exchange," Stansfield said.

Parent company WebCentral has 50,000 customers and handles more than 1.2 million messages a day.
