Five new faces grace AIIA board

Industry body announces new board makeup at annual general meeting includes representatives from Google, Telstra, Verizon, KPMG and Gartner

The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) has elected five new faces to its board of directors.

The new board makeup was announced at the representative body’s annual general meeting. It is comprised of 16 positions: 11 members elected by its membership and five appointments made at the discretion of the board.

The new board members include: Google Australia engineering director, Alan Noble; Gartner group vice-president Asia-Pacific, Warren Anderson; Telstra executive director national sales enterprise and government Nerrida Caesar; Verizon business managing director Ron Gauci; and KPMG director risk advisory services, Bob Hayward.

John Stockbridge from Brookstone Technologies retains the role of Treasurer, while Glen Boreham from IBM was re-elected deputy chair and Data#3's John Grant remains the board chair.

AIIA CEO, Ian Burks, said the board elections were the main agenda of the AGM, and the people elected represented a good balance of geographies and sectors within the industry, as well as offering representation of both local and multinational organisations.

"As part of the AGM we also approved a revised constitution that gives a more modern and updated view of what we represent in the industry, although there were no radical changes, and we reaffirmed the key strategies that had been set earlier in the year," Burks said.

Fujitsu Australia CEO and re-elected board member, Rod Vawdrey, said it was an important time for the board as the voice for the industry.

"We're focused on addressing the problems with workforces and skills, helping the Government with its reviews, and areas such as infrastructure, broadband network and the digital economy," Vawdrey said. "We want to make sure we can use our resources to ultimately drive better outcomes for the industry."

Key initiatives launched by the AIIA in recent months include a challenge to the ICT industry to reduce Australia's carbon footprint. It also launched the inaugural National ICT Careers Week to address skills shortages.
