Australian IT servicing company, Computergate, has opened a Singapore branch office and formed a partnership with Alliance Storage Technologies Inc (ASTI USA) to increase its global presence.

Computergate managing director, Mario Greco, attributed the South East Asia expansion to vendor demands.

“Our vendor partners are asking us to support their products in Asia,” he said. “Opening an office in Singapore, a central Asian hub, allows us to manage that support offering easier than anywhere else.”

Andrew Lee, formerly employed by Copan and EMC, will be the sole staff of Computergate Asia, heading up operations in the new branch, which will employ the same business model used in Australia.

“Our business model is that we have a managing body where we use service agents throughout the region and engage technical companies to do our break-fix work for us,” Greco said.

Computergate has also become the newest authorised service partner for ASTI USA in the Australian market. This partnership will see Computergate providing maintenance services for ASTI USA’s Plasmon product range.

While the deal is not a huge piece of business for Computergate, Greco sees the alliance as an opportunity to garner customers.

“We have to go out there and speak to the customer base and try to get them to take up maintenance contracts,” Greco said. “But at the end of the day the business we’re in is to providing vendor services. It is incremental business for us and it could earn us a significant amount of revenue depending on how many we can convert over.”
