One per cent rise in seasonally adjusted growth for a total of 3.5 per cent growth over last year

The retail market has had a third consecutive month of growth.

The seasonally adjusted growth for the month of May is one per cent, according to figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). This follows increases of 0.3 per cent in April and 2.2 per cent in March.

WA (3.5 per cent), SA (1.8 per cent) and the ACT (1.8 per cent) were the biggest growing geographies, with only Tasmania (-0.1 per cent) experiencing a drop.

All industries other than household goods (-2 per cent) experienced positive growth. Department stores (5.5 per cent), clothing and soft goods (2.9 per cent) and cafes, restaurants and takeaway food (1.4 per cent) were the biggest growth areas.
