ACCC wants a new interface for virtual desktop plan

Agency seeking a designer and creator as part of a new tender

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has opened a tender seeking a user interface designer and creator for its electronic document records management system (EDRMS), TRIM.

The new TRIM interface will play an integral role in the ACCC’s existing plan – outlined in a separate tender – to migrate away from fat clients to virtual desktops and a centralised platform with all data and systems located in Canberra and a passive disaster recovery site in Melbourne.

The ACCC has 790 users with 888,000 documents in the TRIM repository, and over 4.6 million MS Office documents on Novell file and print servers around the country. These servers will be decommissioned as part of the centralisation process. Once the new interface is deployed, all documents will be lodged and searched through TRIM to the central platform housed in Canberra, thereby removing the need for personal or network drives.

Tender documents state the ACCC intends to allow other Federal Government agencies to “piggy back” off any agreements to source services from the winning bidder.

The tender closes on August 24 with services expected to commence in October.
