ASIC looking for Symantec back up and recovery resellers

Agency to expand its existing Symantec solution to its x86 and Solaris Unix environments

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) is seeking authorised resellers to provide Symantec backup and recovery software licenses as it expands the vendor’s solution to its x86 and Solaris Unix environments.

The request for tender also involves related support and maintenance services.

ASIC is expanding its existing Symantec solution (excluding mainframe environments) across its Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Traralgon production systems for backup and restore requirements.

The agency has 31 VMware ESX hosts across all of its locations and expects to have 317 virtual machines (VMs) by the end of 2009. It also has 44 physical servers and 23 Solaris 10 physical servers, 33 Solaris 10 virtual environments, and 17 Solaris 8 servers.

ASIC additionally expects the total volume of data to be backed up will reach 250Tb.

Tender documents state systems integration services are not part of the tender but will be procured under a separate process.

The tender closes on September 17.
