Optus subsidiary, Alphawest, has signed on to provide managed security IT services for Websense.
Alphawest On-Demand Email Security and Alphawest On-Demand Web Security will provide companies with managed service options aimed at reducing the impact of spam, phishing attacks, viruses and other Internet nasties. According to Alphawest CEO, Rob Parcell, the deal with Websense was in the making for over six months and the offerings would target medium enterprise users.
“I think all organisations are looking at where they need to put their energy and their resources and in many instances, ICT parts of their business can be done by others,” he said. “We are seeing a significant increase in interest levels in managed services as well as that translating into acceptable levels of business growth.”
Parcell wouldn’t provide an exact prediction of revenue growth as a result of the two companies coming together, and said the deal was less about the revenue and more about offering a wide variety of services.
“It’s not designed to be a massive revenue growth source for us but it does enable us to work with organisations in other areas,” he said. “It’s a portfolio approach for us around taking a strong position in managed services.”
“We believe the benefits will far outweigh the costs and therefore it’s a pretty straightforward decision for any organisation that’s had to invest in that area.”
