SAPOL points the finger at crims with Livescan

System allows fingerprint identity information to be collected in seconds

The South Australia Police (SAPOL) will be the first local organisation to deploy NEC's LiveScan fingerprint scan technology.

The 19 NEC LiveScan fingerprint capturing systems will be implemented across metropolitan and remote SAPOL police stations, enabling them to collect identity information quickly and accurately.

The system provides fingerprint displays in real-time – allowing immediate positive identification.

NEC Australia senior product specialist and business development manager, Lance Heather, said, "The digitising of fingerprint images means identity information can be collected in a matter of seconds, which is a significant improvement on past technology.”

SAPOL will forward fingerprint scans directly to Canberra-based Australian Federal Government agency, CrimTrac, which manages the central fingerprint database.

CrimTrac automatically checks the image and provides SAPOL with the relevant identity information (either a match or non-match).

"The LiveScan application, including a built-in browser and user-friendly geographic user interface (GUI), can be customised so that tailor screen images can align with the customer's business flow and environment to allow for maximum results," Heather added.

As part of a three-year agreement, NEC will offer a full service; including support, maintenance, delivery and implementation of the solution.
