Local security hardware vendor, Swann, recently introduced a new range of remote controlled (RC) helicopters, rechargeable through any PC, Mac or laptop USB port.
The products feature Swann’s Easy-Fly Gyro technology, trim adjustment for further steadiness and dual joystick controls on an infrared remote control for six-way multi-directional flying – up or down, forward or backward, left and right turns.
Company vice-president of global marketing, Jeremy Stewart, said the helicopters are designed for indoor flying and suitable for pilots of any skill level aged 14 and above.
The chopper range is motorised by a lithium ion battery that can be recharged via USB cable or from the cable in the remote controller. The remote control requires six AA batteries for power and features an indicator light for charging assistance.
“We tested the waters last Christmas and at the Consumer Electronics Show in January and our retail and distribution partners have told us there is demand for this sort of gadget… [for] diverse RC pilots,” Stewart said.
He also added that the company is looking to deploy the same level of innovation to other new products.
The choppers are available in Australia following the products’ success for computer and consumer electronics retailers in North America.
The local range of four different choppers, distributed by Ingram Micro, includes the following models: Micro Lightning (RRP $59.95), Micro Hornet (RRP $59.95) and Missile Strike (RRP $69.95).
All helicopter sets include a spare set of replacement rotors and a bonus landing pad game.
