National broadband company, Internode, has launched its ADSL2+ broadband services for customers in SA coastal town, Victor Harbor.
The company has installed its own Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) equipment at the venue, leveraging from new communications infrastructure set up through the Regional Backbone Blackspots Program (RBBP).
It announced the deployment a day after proclaiming its first NBN customers on mainland Australia.
The broadband upgrade delivers Internode customers with four major improvements: 1. Access to larger data quota plans – from 200GB to 1000GB (one terabyte) 2. Faster broadband speeds from eight Mbps to 24 Mbps 3. New fetchtv service offering Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) with Video-on-Demand, time-shifted television and new channels 4. Cheaper packages with its entry-level Easy Broadband XS plan delivering ADSL2+ broadband with a 30GB data quota for prices from $29.95 monthly as compared to the previous entry-level plan of an ADSL service with a 5GB data quota, costing from $39.95 a month
In addition, Naked ADSL2+ services will be offered for the first time in Victor Harbor.
Due to the RBBP backhaul volumes, Internode is also extending its link to an accessible Internode DSLAM in Mount Barker.
The upgrade will enable broadband services to neighbouring towns of Strathalbyn and Goolwa and possibly to more towns around the region and will interconnect the four towns with a major backhaul communication link between Adelaide and Victoria.
The new RBBP fibre-optic cable is an Australian Government initiative, costing $250 million, which aims to deliver services to underserved regional markets.
Wholesale carrier, Nextgen Networks, is designing, building and managing these new backbone transmission links. Internode managing director, Simon Hackett, said the RBBP would deliver positive outcomes to local communities.
“The great news is that this is just the start. Internode fully expects to undertake more ADSL2+ deployments in other parts of the overall RBBP project area,” he added.
Besides the Victor Harbor RBBP project, the company is also installing its own DSLAM equipment at other national RBBP locations – including Alice Springs, Darwin, Nightcliff and Palmerston in the NT.
