Video conferencing gaining ground in enterprises: Ovum

Australian and New Zealand businesses increasingly adopt video solutions

Room-based video conferencing has been found to be the most popular video solution among large companies in a recent survey by Ovum of 80 enterprises in Australia and New Zealand.

The benefits of life-sized and near life-sized images, high quality audio and visual, reduction of travel cost and time savings offered by various video conferencing solutions have made the technology more attractive to businesses.

“Not surprisingly, desktop video is expected to show the greatest growth, with 21 percent of survey respondents expecting to deploy it in the coming year,” Ovum senior analyst, Claudio Castelli, said.

“This percentage is greater than in other developed regions and can be explained by the fact that sites of enterprises in Australia and New Zealand are more likely to be located in remote areas that are not served by MPLS or Ethernet nodes that would support high-end video services.”

With the quantity of video solutions improving in recent years, Ovum expects this momentum to continue as customers continue to move towards high-definition (HD) video conferencing.

In addition to better quality video and audio, there is also a growing demand among companies for greater degree of interoperability between multiple devices and access technologies.

Providers of unified communication (UC) and business video services for large enterprises in Australia and New Zealand are expected to benefit from the growing adoption of the technology.
