Global wireless innovator of Blackberry, Research In Motion (RIM), recently announced the release date for its BlackBerry PlayBook.

The company announced that the tablet will be available in Australia from June 20 in three Wi-Fi models (16GB, 32GB or 64GB of memory storage) from major carriers Telstra, Optus and Vodafone.

Its retail price starts from MSRP$579 and carriers will announce availability and pricing closer to the launch date.

RIM managing director in Australia, Adele Beachley, said “We are excited to provide customers with the opportunity to check out the BlackBerry PlayBook first hand at their carriers' stores or retailers across the country.”

The BlackBerry PlayBook is designed for multi-tasking with its one GHz dual-core processor and an operating system which supports true symmetric multiprocessing.

Its features include: a highly-responsive and fluid touch screen, support for Adobe Flash Player, a preloaded Documents To Go software and the BlackBerry Bridge software which allows the tablet to link up with BlackBerry smartphones over Bluetooth.

The tablet also features HD multimedia capabilities – a front facing three megapixel camera and a five megapixel rear facing one, each able to record 1080p HD videos and support for video chatting.

The company announced that it has released the BlackBerry Tablet OS v1.0.5, which is available via a free over-the-air update.

It will be accessible to new BlackBerry PlayBook users and review devices can be updated using the latest version of BlackBerry Bridge – available for free via BlackBerry App World on the BlackBerry smartphone.
