To help protect industry and government bodies from potential damage caused by insider attacks, CA Technologies is partnering with Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology for research.
CA Technologies' research laboratory will work in collaboration with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University), which was recently awarded $255,000 by the Australian Research Council (ARC), to perform research into ways of detecting internal threats within organisations.
CA Labs and RMIT University will work together to discover what the early warning signs are behind attacks by insiders so that resources can be effectively deployed to combat them.
“This research will put Australia at the forefront of inside attack prevention and help secure Australia's critical IT infrastructure,” CA Labs research staff member, Dr. Steve Versteeg, said.
With numerous high profile insider attacks in recent months, CA's and RMIT's research partnership is both important and timely, with database of enterprise logs to be analysed to detect patterns of suspicious behaviour and create effective systems to predict and detect insider threat.
“Insider threat detection is one of the most challenging technical issues faced by industry and governments today.” CA Technologies distinguished engineer, senior vice president and chief architect for security, Tim Brown, said.
“We look forward to incorporating these research results into our security products to better meet our customers’ needs.”
The collaboration with RMIT University is one of several steps CA Technologies has taken recently to expand its role and presence in Australia to meet market demands, such as opening a new Federal facility in Barton, Canberra.
