UPDATED: Parallels delivers Desktop 7 for Mac

Also launches new Parallels mobile app for OS X and Windows Control

Cloud services enablement and desktop virtualisation provider, Parallels, has launched the latest version of its solution that runs Windows applications on Mac – the Parallels Desktop 7 (PD7) for Mac.

Along with the software, a new Parallels mobile app for iOS devices (the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch) has been created in conjunction with Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac.

The Parallels Desktop 7 is a software that runs Windows and Mac applications side-by-side on a Mac without the need for rebooting. It integrates with the new Apple Lion features with its more than 90 new and improved enablement.

Parallels CEO, Birger Steen, said, “A growing number of Mac users, including enterprises, find they need to run critical Windows programs on their Macs.

"Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac lets you run popular apps like Windows Internet Explorer, Access, OneNote, Quicken and more, even the most demanding graphical programs, without rebooting and without compromise on speed and usability.”

The solution enables users to use their iPad, iPhone or iPod touch to watch and listen to Flash videos in Windows on a Mac and run multiple copies of OS X Lion or Windows and their applications on a Mac.

The company announced the availability of Parallels Desktop 7 Switch to Mac Edition, for users who intend to switch from PC to Mac, which includes Parallels Desktop 7, Parallels High Speed USB transfer cable and almost two hours of video tutorials.

It also launched the new Parallels Mobile app with My Parallels service for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices works with Parallels Desktop 7.

The app lets users remotely access and control both Mac and Windows applications and files from anywhere.

Some of its features include: Audio support for Flash, the ability to copy and paste text between Windows programs on your Mac and your Apple mobile devices and complete access to and control of the Mac, Windows and other desktops – along with their applications, programs and files.

Parallels Desktop 7 is targeted at businesses, individuals or students is available as an upgrade for current Parallels Desktop users.

It will be available to the general public, both a downloadable version and packaged software for delivery, the Parallels website, from Wednesday, September 7.

Packaged software will also be available from that day from Apple resellers, Apple retail stores, JB Hi-Fi, Dick Smith, Leading Edge Computers, MAC1, Next Byte, CompNow, Domayne, Mac Centre and other leading computer retailers.

The SRP of Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac is $89.95, a student edition is available for $49.95 and Parallels Desktop 7 Switch to Mac Edition is $119.95. An upgrade is available at $49.95.

A free trial of Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac is also available from September 7 from the Parallels website. it provides in-depth information, videos and screenshots of the new features.

The Parallels Mobile app is available in the App Store on (or shortly after) September 7 with a $5.99 introductory price; the standard retail price is $23.99.
