VMworld 2011 sees Veeam win Best New Technology award

Veeam’s Backup and Replication v6 software won the best new technology award for the second consecutive year at VMworld 2011, positing Veeam as the first vendor to provide image-based data protection.

Veeam is a VMware data protection, disaster recovery, and management solutions provider.

The Best of VMworld 2011 covers eight product categories where independent industry experts select winners from over 250 entrants, judging innovation, value, performance, reliability, and ease of use.

The v6 aims to provide expanded functionality through:

  • New distributed architecture streamlines deployment and maintenance of remote office/branch office (ROBO) and large installations. It also contains two-to-one back and replication for flowing data protection and quicker recovery times.
  • Accelerated replication speed by ten times that of previous versions, streamlines failover, and real failback with delta sync,
  • New support for Windows Server Hyper-V and Microsoft Hyper-V Server within Veeam’s existing infrastructure for reduced cost of multi-hyperversion environment management.
  • Delegated, web-based restore to the original VM in order to extend Veeam’s existing Instant File-Level Recovery (IFLR).
General availability of Backup and Replication v6 is expected in late 2011.

The company has also upgraded its test data management solution.

Test Data Privacy 3.1 promises simplified creation and disguise of test data, which serves as a cost-effective enterprise-wide protection solution.

The 3.1 allows authorised personnel to develop a set of disguise rules using the Compuware Workbench with its industry-standard interface, which are then stored in a central repository. These rules may take the form of random characters or digits and percentages.

As data is extracted from production, the disguise is applied, offering transparency to protect the integrity of businesses.

The 3.1 offers customisable permission levels, allowing access for select individuals according to their level of authorisation.

The upgrade provides added coverage reports to give visibility to the expected results that are then confirmed with final audits.

Compuware test data management worldwide solution leader, Stuart Feravich, said, “Test Data Privacy 3.1 raises data disguise to the level specified in privacy legislation, enabling compliance departments to monitor progress while reducing the burden of implementation and maintenance from IT.”
