Asus has unveiled its latest in ultra-portable notebook technology and design, the Asus Zenbook.

At a launch event in Sydney, Asus regional head of the system business group, Vivian Hung, said the four key principles that guided the notebook’s development team during its design phase were design, performance, going Green and transcending sound.

The silver exterior panel of the Asus Zenbook features a concentric circle design and a thickness of 0.28cm at the front and 0.89cm at the rear.

According to Asus, it is the thinnest Ultrabook on the market. It will be available in 11-inch and 13-inch models.

Intel A/NZ general manager, Philip Cronin, said the notebook is aimed at users constantly on-the-go or in the classroom.

It uses the latest Intel second generation Core processors, SATA Revision 3.0 solid state storage (SSD), Bluetooth V4.0 and USB 3.0. Asus has also added a USB Charger+ technology, which uses the powered USB 3.0 port to recharge portable devices in a quicker timeframe.

It utilises Asus’ patented Super Hybrid Engine II technology, which conserves battery life and allows it to have up to 25 per cent more battery life than other Ultrabook designs, according to Asus Australia notebook product manager, Shawn Yen.

When its battery life drops below five per cent, the Zenbook automatically saves all files in progress to prevent data loss.

“With an ultra-responsive feature, the Zenbook will allow you to resume the system from a ‘sleep’ mode in about two seconds and standby time of up to two weeks in ‘sleep’ mode, four times more than the industry standard,” Yen said.

Its other features include sound technology of Asus SonicMaster technology in partnership with audio experts, Bang & Olufsen, Windows 7 OS, from 128GB SATA III SSD storage and either Intel Core i7 or Core i5 processors.

The Zenbook will be available in Australia from Synnex Australia on November 11, with prices starting from RRP$1399. An Asus sleeve, VGA adaptor and Lan adaptor will be included as part of the package.

Intel Australia has pumped $300 million into the Ultrabook Fund.
