Telstra switches on network intelligence for Next IP

Telco gives more data traffic visibility and control to business customers on its Next IP network.

Telstra has launched the first phase of its intelligent reporting service on its Next IP network.

Next IP is Telstra’s private IP network offering for business clients.

The new service, called Application Assured Networking (AAN), gives business customers more visibility over the traffic on their networks. It can provide detailed reporting of how and what applications consume data which can be viewed on the Telstra Business and Enterprise website.

Phase two will see AAN give customers the ability to dynamically control over what applications can be used on their networks and scale bandwidth to certain applications accordingly.

In other words, customers can control quality of service (QoS) of applications that may be critical to their business such as video conferencing.

The new network intelligence features are intended to make it easier for IT managers to control and manage their networks.

AAN is not a free but Telstra is offering it at a “good value price” to lure customers in during the launch period.

“We’ve been talking to customers for about six months or more – very large banking customers, federal agencies, small businesses – and all have expressed interest in the new offering,” Telstra director of IP and data, John Ieraci, said.

Telstra worked with a number of global companies to develop AAN. Alcatel-Lucent and Infovista were key partners for the first phase of this release while Juniper and Cisco will be playing a big part in phase two.

Phase two of the AAN launch will occur later this year.
