SAP has decided to develop future Java applications using Borland's JBuilder tool, and will recommend its customers and channel partners do the same when integrating systems with SAP software.
The enterprise resource planning (ERP) vendor recently adapted its software to be compliant with the J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) standard shared by a growing percentage of the IT community. SAP has now chosen a "preferred" development environment to make it easier for customers and partners to create the necessary interfaces that allow data to be shared between the SAP module and other software.
"When customers want to extract information out of or enter data into the SAP system from another application, SAP will recommend that the interface be developed using Jbuilder," said Andrew Munro, managing director for Borland Australia and New Zealand. "The application server is becoming commonplace in the corporate environment and there is an increasing adoption of the Java platform for enterprise-wide applications."
Also announced at the recent JavaOne development conference, mobile communications and networking giant Nokia has announced it will adopt Borland's development environment for Java-enabled mobile phones.
