LG announces Optimus L Series 2 smartphones ahead of MWC

Optimus L7 2, Optimus L5 2 and Optimus L3 2 inbound

LG has announced its Optimus L Series 2 smartphones before this month's Mobile World Congress (MWC).

It seems the smiley faced firm just couldn't wait to reveal the Optimus L7 2, Optimus L5 2 and Optimus L3 2. The trio of Android smartphones will follow the original L Series and be shown of at MWC in Barcelona. See also: Group test: what's the best smartphone?

"LG has a history of pushing the envelope when it comes to style and Optimus L Series 2 builds on this heritage of design innovation," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Mobile "By evolving the sophisticated style and premium features of the original Optimus L Series, its sequel is expected to continue the popularity of the L Series around the world."

It was a year ago at MWC 2012 that LG unveiled the Optimus L7, Optimus L5 and Optimus L3. We're hoping LG can do better this time around after the L Series was something of a let down.

LG said it sold 10 million of the devices in the first 10 months.

The flagship LG Optimus L7 2 will come with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch IPS display, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, 8MP rear camera and a 2,460mAh battery. These specs don't look particularly exciting when compared to devices like the Full HD Sony Xperia Z but the L7 does come with Android 4.1 Jelly bean at least.

Full details of the Optimus L5 2 and the Optimus L3 2 haven't been announced yet but they will have 4in and 3.2in displays respectively.

To tempt consumers the L Series 2 handsets will feature "seamless layout, laser cut contour, radiant rear design and Smart LED lighting on the home button." They will also include QuickMemo, SafeyCare and a customisable hotkey called Quick Button.
