Vodafone launches first NZ 4G service

Collaborates with Nokia Siemens Networks

Vodafone New Zealand has launched its first 4G LTE ultra-fast mobile broadband services in Auckland.

The telco service provider collaborated with Nokia Siemens Networks in deploying its LTE network across the country.

In addition, Nokia Siemens Networks, in partnership with Vodafone New Zealand, upgraded Vodafone’s 2G and 3G networks for improved coverage and speed. They also jointly completed GSM and LTE re-farming so that part of the GSM spectrum can be re-used for LTE.

Vodafone New Zealand CEO, Russell Stanners, said the launch of the country’s first commercial 4G network is a major milestone for New Zealand.

“We’ve now joined other countries which are already seeing the benefits of 4G. With so much of our lives being driven now by the desire and ability to be connected to data wherever we are, this major network investment by Vodafone is really important,” he said.

Nokia Siemens Networks has also upgraded its NetAct network management system to enable consolidated monitoring, management, and operation of Vodafone’s modernised network.
