Rugged computer manufacturer, Getac Technology Corporation, has launched its X500 Server which will be distributed solely by Synnex in Australia.

Running Windows Server 2012 and designed for mobile command centres, the briefcase-sized X500 is a mobile system which combines the capabilities of a laptop and server.

The commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) device is powered by a 1.73GHz Intel Core i7-820QM processor, and has 16GB of RAM alongside 500GB SATA notebook storage. It offers up to 5TB RAID storage (0, 1 or 5 data management).

Graphics are handled by an Nvidia GeForce GT330M card, delivering images to the X500’s 15.6-inch 800NITs QuadraClear display which Getac claims is “sunlight-readable.”

Other features include dual 10/100/1000 base-T Ethernet ports, three USB 2.0 ports, one USB/eSATA combo port, two serial 9-pin D-sub ports, Bluetooth, and 802.11 a/b/g/n WLAN.

The X500 weighs 8.6kg, which is expected from a rugged mobile server, and measures 410x290x119mm. It is MIL-STD-810G certified for ruggedness and shock protection, and has IP65 rating for water and dust resistance.

Like other Getac rugged products, the X500 is covered by a five-year warranty. Resellers and customers are advised to view the full terms of the warranty on Getac’s Web site.
