NetApp looks to universalise Cloud management

Intends to use Data ONTAP as universal platform across all Cloud environments

Storage and data management solutions company, NetApp, has unveiled its Cloud strategy roadmap, emphasising focus on providing Cloud management across any blend of private and public Cloud resources.

It intends to do so by using branded storage operating system, Data ONTAP, as a universal data platform across Cloud environments. The Data ONTAP software will enable dynamic data portability across all Clouds and will support customer choice for application, technology, and Cloud partner options.

In a statement, NetApp said it will also further integrate its software into existing and forthcoming private Cloud, large-scale public Cloud, and hyperscale Cloud service provider solutions to assist organisations in optimising IT delivery.

In addition, it claims that utilising its universal data container will make it easier to move data and workloads across instances of Data ONTAP in a multi-Cloud environment.

“With more IT organisations complementing private Cloud infrastructure with public Cloud services, NetApp’s patented clustered Data ONTAP software provides a common fabric for storage and data management cross all Cloud resources,” the company said.

In collaboration with Cisco Systems, NetApp aims to further the integration of clustered Data ONTAP into the FlexPod converged infrastructure with the introduction of new reference architectures aimed at large-scale Cloud provider and enterprise multi-tenant environment.

NetApp also promises to enable application owners through API integrations via investments in connecting to hyperscale Cloud service providers, more robust quality-of-service capabilities, and integrations with emerging solutions such as OpenStack and CloudStack.
