Nominations open for Internet Hall of Fame Class of 2014

The nomination process has opened for the Internet Hall of Fame's Class of 2014, which will honor visionaries, innovators and leaders from around the world.

The Internet Society program, which has honored two Hall classes to date, has recognized inductees in the past such as Netscape's Marc Andreessen, Ethernet creator Bob Metcalfe and Wikipedia's Jimmy Wales.

Nominations for the Class of 2014 close on Oct. 31 and a ceremony for honorees will take place in Hong Kong on April 8, 2014.

Nominees for induction in this virtual hall of fame will be selected from three categories:

  • Pioneers: individuals instrumental in the early design and development of the Internet
  • Innovators: individuals who made outstanding technological, commercial, or policy advances and helped expand the Internet's reach
  • Global Connectors: individuals who made major contributions to the growth, connectivity, and use of the Internet, either on a global scale or within a specific region or community

The tech industry actually has quite a few physical and virtual halls of fame now, including those dedicated to wireless and cybersecurity.
