Novell has partnered with MobileIron to enable more secure mobile file access with the help of two separate products.
The collaboration will mean file access and sharing will be enabled in Novell Filr, a mobile file-sharing solution built specifically for the enterprise, via MobileIron AppConnect's containerisation and encryption.
Novell president and general manager, Bob Flynn, said the pairing of Novell and MobileIron simplifies the complexity around secure, mobile file access.
“Due to the enormous growth of mobile devices within the enterprise, IT faces a real challenge with protecting corporate data,” he said.
“The strategic partnership with MobileIron allows only authorised employees the ability to access and share corporate files on-the-go through Novell Filr and our on-premise deployment.”
Data in control
While mobile devices are provided with authorised access to files on corporate servers via Filr, it is up to AppConnect to keep the managed and personal data separate.
“This partnership makes it easier for IT to remain compliant with corporate data loss prevention by securing access and controls by user,” Flynn said.
Flynn adds that data leakage can be controlled by restricting replication of the data and usage of certain apps.
Some of the capabilities can be disabled through the Filr and AppConnect pairing includes cut and copy controls for files, the opening of documents in certain applications, and white listing of apps for opening documents.
