Public consultation opens for draft Victorian ICT Workforce Development Plan

Minister for Technology welcomes feedback on draft plan

Minister for Technology, Gordon Rich-Phillips, is inviting public feedback on the Victorian Coalition Government’s draft ICT Workforce Development Plan, which intends to help position the state to capitalise from the changing ICT landscape.

The draft plan – developed in collaboration with the Victorian Information and Communications Advisory Committee (VICTAC) – also promises to ensure the state develops a focused and sufficiently-skilled business technology workforce to lead it into the next surge of economic growth.

Public consultation opens today and will close on February 12. The plan will be finalised following the consideration of feedback received in this period.

Rich-Phillips claims the plan will assist Victoria in meeting the continuing demand for ICT workers across all industries, while increasing the state’s ability to retain and extend the skills of ICT professionals.

“Cross-sector collaboration is key to developing the ICT sector in Victoria, and employers in different industry sectors face recruitment and management challenges when it comes to ICT,” Rich-Phillips said.

“Building a robust and highly-skilled ICT workforce is a challenging task that can only be achieved through joint action of government, industry and education, and this collaborative approached flagged in the draft plan will continue to be the basis for ongoing work that will make sure Victoria remains ahead of the pack in ICT.

The ICT Workforce Development Plan supports the Victorian Government's ICT strategy which was released in 2013, as well as Victoria’s ICT Technology Plan for the Future.
