HTC One 2 (M8) to launch on March 25

HTC will announce the successor to the One smartphone at an event in March

HTC has sent out invitations to a launch event for its next flagship smartphone, the HTC One 2 (name to be confirmed).

Although mobile world congress (MWC), the smartphone and tablet focused tech show, is just a matter of days away, HTC has scheduled a launch event for March 25. The firm is expected to announce the follow up to the HTC One, codenamed M8, after Tweeting "The best is about to get better".

There have been plenty of leaked details surrounding the M8 including that it will be the first HTC device to use on-screen buttons. Rumoured specifications include a 5in Full HD screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor and Android 4.4 KitKat. No doubt it will come with HTC's latest Sense UI, probably version 6.0.

Leaked photos of a possible HTC M8 show dual-camera lenses so it will be interesting to see what HTC has up its sleeve on that front.

Keeping in line with its current offering, HTC will launch a mini version of the M8, according to evleaks. It will supposedly feature a 4.5in 720p screen, 13Mp camera, and a Snapdragon 400 processor.

What far more unsure is what HTC will call the smartphone. 'HTC One 2' sounds like a microphone check so perhaps HTC will leave the name the same like Google did with the Nexus 7 or add a '2014' on the end to signify its newness.
