Dell releases new mid-tier storage arrays for APAC

Enters mid-range fibre channel market

Dell has unveiled a series of enterprise storage arrays targeted at mid-sized fibre channel deployments.

The products are available first in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region in May and are set for global release later in 2014. The manufacturer said the SC4000 series demonstrates its continued innovation to bring full-featured, enterprise-class storage to cost-efficient, high performing, smaller scale solutions.

Dell claims the storage array series, with an all-flash solution, can cost up to 76 per cent less than competing products.

Dell's storage vice president and general manager, Alan Atkinson, said the SC4000 series represents the company’s redefinition of the economics of enterprise and a 'huge' opportunity for customers.

“Dell now can offer enterprise-class, fibre-channel arrays in a high-performing, affordable solution designed for mid-sized deployments. These arrays offer the advanced capabilities of larger-scale enterprise storage to help medium-sized organisations become more competitive, while enabling Dell to address an entirely new storage market segment with our world class solutions and support.”

The new series will debut with the SC4020, which can scale to 408 terabytes of raw capacity, according to Dell. The unit is a 2U, 24-drive storage area network (SAN) based on Dell compellent storage centre software.
