IBX datacentre and co-location provider, Equinix, is preparing for the launch of its first datacentre in Melbourne (ME1) with the promotion of Jeremy Deutsch from sales director to country manager for Australia.
The first phase of ME1 is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of this year, with the $US60 million Port Melbourne facility expected to provide a total of 1500 cabinets, the first 375 of which will be available at launch.
Deutsch will also focus on growing the company’s profile in Sydney on the back of its $US30m expansion of third International Business Exchange (IBX) location, SY3, in the city in early April.
Deutsch’s promotion follows 14 years in the ICT industry across sales, marketing, operations, and technical functions.
“In Jeremy’s capacity as sales director for Sydney, he has shown strong leadership skills and an in-depth knowledge of our business during his tenure with Equinix,” Equinix Asia-Pacific (APAC) president, Samuel Lee, said.
“With great momentum in Sydney and with Melbourne opening at the end of this year, we are excited to have Jeremy as our new country manager to lead Equinix’s continued growth in Australia.”
During his time at Equinix, Deutsch has been directly involved in the growth of the company’s Australian customer base between 2008 and 2013, as well as the increase in its sales team which has tripled in size.
