AVG is now the dominant PC and mobile security app in the Australian market, according to the latest Telsyte Australian Digital Consumer study.
AVG now holds a more than quarter of the local market on PCs (26 per cent) and 25 per cent of mobile devices and smartphones, according to the report.
The company provides internet and mobile security, privacy and optimisation to 187 million users worldwide.
Telsyte managing director and principal analyst, Foad Fadaghi, said: “In a fragmented and competitive market, AVG has used its ‘free to download app’ strategy to help it become the most used product on post-PC devices in Australia.”
The study included a broad ranging analysis of digital trends in Australia, including attitudes towards Internet security and use of associated software and services across PCs, mobile devices and smartphones.
The study showed concerns around security and privacy, including 20 per cent of respondents having had accounts hacked or compromised.
It found 79 per cent of people were concerned about personal information being exposed online, while 75 per cent of Australians do not like web sites tracking their movements.
More than half (51 per cent) of Australian consumers 16 years and older have security software and apps on all their connected devices.
AVG Technologies Australia chief executive, Peter Cameron, said the study confirmed the company's leadership position in the Australian PC market.
"That leadership carries across to Android smartphones where we are seeing rapid growth in the uptake of our mobile security apps," he said.
"With our easy to use protections, more people have their devices and personal information safeguarded from attack.”
