VMworld 2014: McAfee reveals Server Security Suites update

Security vendor adds performance optimisation and additional management efficiency

McAfee, part of Intel Security, has made improvements to its Server Security Suites portfolio with the introduction of performance optimisation and additional management efficiency to increase security for servers in physical, virtualised and Cloud environments.

The vendor’s Server Security Suites is designed to provide foundational elements to secure servers that support datacentres.

Comprising the Suites is Essentials (blacklisting and optimised virtualisation support capabilities), Advanced (signature-based blacklisting for zero-day and ATP protection), and MOVE AV 3.5 (advanced malware protection for virtualised server environments across multiple vendor platforms), which are integrated with ePolicy Orchestrator software.

Included in the update, as revealed at VMworld 2014, is: simplified Security Virtual Appliance (SVA) provisioning through NSX composer for MOVE AV deployments; increased visibility and control over network communications between virtual machines with MOVE Agentless Firewall using VMware vCloud Network and Security (vCNS); a new SVA manager for MOVE AV (multi-platform) which promises simplified security management.

McAfee has also added two new Data Centre Connectors for Microsoft Azure and OpenStack, which sits beside the existing version for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and VMware vSphere.

The vendor claims the improvements strengthen a customer’s ability to discover workloads, achieve greater visibility, apply comprehensive protection with granular policy management, and expand server instances into public Cloud.
