HP executive vice president, technology and operations, John Hinshaw reveals the launch of ProLiant Gen9 servers at HP World Tour in Sydney.
HP has launched its next generation of servers which are four times faster and have three times more capacity than the previous generation eight servers.
The new portfolio of HP ProLiant, Generation Nine servers, aim to reduce cost and complexity, accelerate IT service delivery and enable business growth.
With new technology features and workload-optimised design, the new server portfolio advances HP’ vision for the future of data centre technology.
According to a company statement, the new HP ProLiant Gen9 portfolio is a major delivery milestone in HP’s compute strategy, which addresses IT demands with a vast pool of processing resources that can be located anywhere, scaled to any workload and available at all times.
HP executive vice president, technology and operations, John Hinshaw, said the Gen9 server was three times the computing capacity in the same space as gen eight and four times faster, from a processing perspective.
"We think this is going to change the market place for servers," he said.
"No other company will be anywhere close to this for many years to come. This will be available in September and they come cloud ready."
The servers are optimised for convergence, cloud and software-defined environments, and feature new technology innovations such as HP-unique PCIe accelerators and HP DDR4 SmartMemory that increase compute capacity.
There is also converged management across servers, storage and networking to enable a software defined enterprise.
It enables faster setup, monitoring and firmware maintenance with reliable, secure and innovative embedded management, including UEFI and RESTful APIs for hybrid cloud environments.
Other features include PCIe Accelerators, HP SmartCache and HP FlexFabric adapters that deliver improved performance.
HP vice president and general manager, HP Servers, Asia Pacific, Stephen Bovis, told ARN, this would extend HPs worldwide leadership in the server market.
"When we came to market with gen eight we spent huge amounts of time with our customers understanding what was important to them and obviously getting a strong market context in terms of where the focus areas needed to be around server technology," he said.
"We continue to have worldwide and an APJ leadership for that platform and obviously with gen nine our expectation is that we will continue with that leadership.
Bovis said the new server used Intel's latest processing technology in conjunction with new memory technology which is known as DDR4 technology, and also new storage technology from a controller perspective and networking.
"Performance is not just about processing performance it's about the whole balanced architecture and having things like the networking, the storage, the processor, the memory, all working in a way that deliver the utmost in technology performance."
According to a company statement, the new server will triple compute capacity and increase efficiency across multiple workloads at a lower total cost of ownership with design optimisation and automation.

It will also accelerate IT service delivery and increase infrastructure provisioning up to 66 times faster when combined with HP OneView converged management features, which will be available later this year.
It will also improve workload performance of business-critical applications up to four times to drive business growth with unique HP storage, memory and networking innovations.
Bovis said the rise of mobile, cloud, social and big data was driving the need for a new approach to the datacentre and its processing engine - the server - to enable successful business outcomes.
“HP created the x86 server market 25 years ago, and we have led this market ever since with innovations that have dramatically transformed the data centre, such as HP Moonshot and HP Apollo," he said.
"Today, we’re setting the stage for the next quarter century with HP ProLiant Gen9 Servers and compute, which combines the best of traditional IT and cloud environments to enable a truly software-defined enterprise.”
Redstone Federal Credit Union, chief information officer, Harry Gunsallus, said, with HP compute, he could scale up to millions of transactions a day, deploy servers in virtualised environments in seconds and provision applications in minutes.
“This has allowed us to cut down our mobile application development and deployment life cycle by 30 percent to 90 days (on average) and grow revenue 50 percent year over year to our technology and software consulting subsidiary, Redstone Consulting Group LLC.”
The new servers will be available through HP and worldwide channel partners from September 8.
Bovis said the new line of servers offered a great opportunity for Australian channel partners.
"If we are able to continue to enable our channel community with the very best innovation, which certainly Gen9 is, then that gives them significant opportunity to be very relevant to their customers," he said.
"I see this as great for the channel. It's new innovation, it's new technology very well positioned as to where the market is going.
Bovis said the company had a strong established partner network, but that the market continued to evolve.
"We'll continue to grow out our capabilities with the partners that exist today, and as new parters come to the market we will also explore the opportunity to partner with them."
