Zellabox has been named a finalist in a Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) competition for environmental innovation. The RBS Innovation Gateway is an international search for new ways of reducing energy, water and waste.
The Perth-based company submitted its Micro Data Centre, designed to replace the traditional ‘bricks and mortar’ server room. Zellabox said it will enable RBS to house its branch communications and networking equipment.
Zellabox COO, Angie Keeler, said the Zellabox Micro Data Centre (MDC) is a housing unit that replicates all the capabilities of a traditional data centre on a smaller scale. It miniaturises the traditional server room into the size of an average refrigerator, offering its own cooling, security and power capabilities.
“It is a real honour and fantastic endorsement for Zellabox and our range of Micro Data Centres. The RBS Innovation Gateway has opened up a potential opportunity for Zellabox to work with RBS to help reduce energy costs across their branch network within the UK.”
An independent panel of experts from academia and business worked with RBS to analyse each submission and choose finalists. The next stage of the competition is a Dragon’s Den style panel at RBS headquarters in London where final pitches will be presented.
