Amazon Web Services (AWS) has named Melbourne IT as its latest premier consulting partner.
The Melbourne-based managed service provider is now one of two Australian partners to join AWS’ top group of consultants.
Melbourne IT CEO and managing director, Martin Mercer, said the selection came after 12 months of certifications, customer references, and consultancy competency.
“It’s recognition that we’re one of only 28 global partners that have achieved this status,” he said.
Mercer adds the new title from AWS is also a reflection of how much Melbourne IT has invested into its enterprise business following its acquisition of Netregistry.
“We’ve made a clear decision to invest in the growth of the enterprise business, as we see it as an integral part of the business going forward, and this title from AWS just cements that in many ways,” he said.
Broadening the services
Mercer said Melbourne IT was already an advanced partner of AWS, and it had been focusing on its managed services competency since 2013.
Managed services competency and government accreditation was a priority at first, though over 2014 customers asked Melbourne IT to broaden its services.
Customer requests extended to application development, maintenance, and support on top of the Cloud services Melbourne IT provides.
“Providing those broader solutions meant we wanted that validation of premier partner status so that we could communicate that breadth of services to the market,” Mercer said.
Although Melbourne IT met the criteria earlier in the year, AWS only announces new premier partner during its re:Invent conference in November, which it did this year.
