VMware is set to bolster its recent launch of its vCloud Air with the introduction of Horizon Air this quarter in Australia.

With this expansion, VMware will become the most geographically distributed desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) provider in the industry with four locations in the United States (Santa Clara, Las Vegas, Sterling and Dallas) and three in EMEA (UK, France and Germany), according to a company statement.

It follows the recent reveal of Project Enzo, a Next Generation Hybrid Cloud Architecture designed to transform Virtual workspaces.

In addition, VMware Horizon Air will introduce several new features this quarter that will further simplify the provisioning, delivery and management of cloud-hosted desktops and applications.

They include a new IT administration console that will simplify the management and monitoring of Cloud-hosted desktops and applications.

There will be new APIs to make administrative functions available programmatically.

This will include the ability for IT to build custom workflows and processes for actions such as creating a virtual desktop, assigning to a pool, and much more.

Likewise, the development of Project Enzo will see a brand new set of technologies as a new hybrid cloud-scale architecture that combines the economic benefits of Cloud-based VMware virtual desktops and application technology, with the simplicity of hyper-converged infrastructure.

VMware Project Enzo represents a new approach to building, delivering and managing virtual workspaces.

Project Enzo will enable the unified management of on-premises and Cloud-based virtual workspace services (desktops and applications) through a single Web-based portal that will be available as a Cloud service on VMware vCloud Air.

VMware Horizon Air services will be available in Australia this quarter.

Data #3 national practice manager, David Barclay, said the company had already made some great strides in assisting clients through Cloud enabled business transformation.

"Today’s launch of Horizon Air will allow us to bolster this offering and deliver true Cloud solutions that are directly aligned to business outcomes," he said.

"As the recently named VMware End User Computing Partner of the Year, this is a solution we are particularly excited about, and are looking forward to showcasing its great capabilities to our customers.”

Datacom director, Queensland, Glenn Scown, said was extremely excited to integrate VMware Horizon Air into the company's portfolio.

"As a VMware-Certified Datacentre Provider, we’ve enjoyed a long-time relationship with VMware, and the recent advancements with vCloud Air and now Horizon Air have signalled an exciting new phase in our journey together.
