Empired inks $20 million Rio Tinto deal

IT services company wins five-year contract

Empired has won a five-year $20 million Rio Tinto managed services contract.

Under the agreement, the IT service provider will provide application support and project services for more than 170 unique applications, spanning a number of technologies including Legacy Platforms, Oracle, Microsoft .Net, Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft CRM.

The applications are largely technical systems used in the management of field operations spanning mining, processing, rail and port facilities.

Empired managing director, Russell Baskerville, said his company would manage applications that were critical to the efficient operation of one of the world’s largest mining operations.

“This award speaks volumes about the quality of services currently being provided by Empired to Rio Tinto under the TST program. I am pleased to see our extended Microsoft capability through the acquisitions of OBS, eSavvy and Intergen leveraged to provide a seamless and cohesive solution to Rio Tinto," he said.

He said the acquisitions leveraged the broader capability to win large multi-year contracts.

“Rio Tinto continues to present a great opportunity to Empired and we are focused on working with them to identify areas where we can assist Rio Tinto to deliver on its stated business objectives. It is a pleasure delivering services for them and we are committed to delivering an exceptional outcome under this new contract.”

The contract follows the recent announcements of a managed services contract with Toyota and a $12 million contract with Ministry for Primary Industries in New Zealand.

According to a company statement, Empired continues to have a strong pipeline of large strategic contracts being pursued and is confident of securing additional new contract wins to be announced in the near term.
