Microsoft small and midmarket solutions and partners (SMS&P) director, David Gage, has left the company to pursue other opportunities.

Gage, an ARN Hall of Fame inductee, said he will first be taking a family holiday for a few months, before pursuing a new endeavour related to venture capital and private equity companies.

He said he had multiple opportunities on the table, but would not confirm directly his new targets. He will be remaining in the IT industry.

Gage told ARN his division had achieved all its goals under his watch including double market growth, and winning Microsoft A/NZ's subsidiary of the year.

He had been with Microsoft since November 2013, following his role as CEO of Express Data, were he oversaw its purchase and incorporation into Dicker Data.

He said A/NZ MD Pip Marlow had supported him in his decision, and that his replacement, director of marketing and operations, Mark Leigh, was a good close friend who had been groomed for the job.

"David has led the SMS&P team through a critical time in our transformation and I know he has supported many of you in delivering some extraordinary things for our customers. I’d like to thank David for all that he has done and wish him the very best in the next phase of his career," Marlow said.

Leigh has been with the company for 12 years, and his role as SMS&P director is effective immediately.

“I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to lead the SMS&P team. I’ve watched this business grow rapidly over several years and I am proud of the work that you do to help our customers achieve more. I look forward to connecting with all of you in the coming weeks," he said.

Gage will remain with the company until the end of October to aid with the transition.
