Commvault launches Commvault IntelliSnap for NetApp

Enterprise data protection and information management company, Commvault, has launched its new snapshot management solution, Commvault IntelliSnap for NetApp, which aims to accelerate and simplify data protection and recovery for NetApp customers.

The Commvault IntelliSnap for NetApp offering replaces NetApp’s SnapProtect solution, enables customers to expand to the full range of Commvault’s data protection solutions, and shifts support responsibility for the deployed solution to Commvault’s customer support organisation.

The company said, in a statement, that the new solution streamlines snapshot management of NetApp storage across all business-critical applications, enabling full application recovery whilst eliminating the need for any complicated, manual processes.

NetApp Asia-Pacific president, Rick Scurfield, said as part of the expanded Commvault NetApp relationship, the company and its reseller partners can sell the Commvault IntelliSnap for NetApp solution together with NetApp storage to customers in a single transaction and provide a clear path to add Commvault software modules for existing and new NetApp customer environments.

“Working in close collaboration with our partner Commvault, we are committed to providing integrated solutions and services that enable our customers to confidently embrace hybrid cloud architectures that deliver value and efficiencies,” he said.

Commvault Asia-Pacific vice-president, Owen Taraniuk, said the company has a long history working closely with NetApp as a strategic partner in Asia-Pacific, and this recent alignment will open new joint revenue opportunities.

“It enables our customers to seamlessly access, secure and move their data in response to changing business needs,” he added.

Lenovo unveils converged HX series appliances

Lenovo has launched its new Converged HX Series appliances, which features Nutanix Acropolis and Prism software.

Three models will be available and can be customised to specific needs:

Lenovo Converged HX3500 is optimised for VDI and smaller virtualisation workloads including email, file & print, web server, middleware, light database and remote/branch office environments.

Lenovo Converged HX5500 is optimised for server virtualisation workloads with larger capacity requirements including Hadoop big data, file servers, on-cluster backups, Splunk, and centralised disaster recovery for remote/branch office environments.

Lenovo Converged HX7500 is optimised for Databases and other I/O intensive workloads, including MS SQL Server, MS Exchange, SharePoint and Oracle RAC environments.

Lenovo next-generation infrastructures and business development vice-president, Brian Connors, said the co-engineered Lenovo appliances will help customers focus on greater efficiency, agility and scalability while delivering a higher return on investment.

“Today’s typical datacentre has multiple generations of servers, operating systems, storage and hypervisors. IT managers must juggle complex tasks while maintaining legacy hardware and software.

“The Converged HX series of appliances addresses disruptive shifts in IT consumption and datacentre design. Converged infrastructures with hyperconverged solutions are breaking down the traditional silos and helping customers drive down operating expense,” he said.

He added that to help customers architect, size and deploy the next-generation infrastructure, Lenovo and Nutanix are investing in dedicated sales and support expertise.

Qlik releases QlikView 12

Visual analytics company, Qlik, has released QlikView 12 – a solution which streamlines compatibility across its flagship products. The latest version of the company’s QlikView product line, brings QlikView onto the same modern QIX Associative Data Indexing Engine (QIX) that powers Qlik Sense.

Not only are there increased synergies across the products, but it also enhances security, simplifies connections to Web services and enables greater mobility for users as they can utilise all functions in the Web client from any touch screen device.

Qlik chief technology officer and senior vice-president of products, Anthony Deighton, said its customers were clear that they wanted a future with Qlik that helps them address a growing demand for an increasingly diverse range of analytics needs in their organisations.

“QlikView 12 helps them to solidify their future with Qlik on a common engine, with common data models, so they can keep the associative search experience they love so much on whichever Qlik product that is right for them,” he added.

Some other features of QlikView 12 include security enhancements, improved clustering, and free and subscription-based data-as-a-service models.

Tintri delivers new entry-level all-flash system

VM-aware storage (VAS) company, Tintri, has unveiled Tintri VMstore T5040, a new entry-level all-flash storage array.

The mini-flash array is an evolution of Tintri’s current offerings and provides the same advantages as its bigger counterparts (the T5060 and T5080) - namely fast VM performance, VM storage quality of service with management features (down to the individual VM level), and as it is an appliance that requires an order of magnitude less operational overhead.

Tintri CEO and chairman, Ken Klein, said the mini-flash is suited for customers who are either embarking on a new project or who already have a Tintri Hybrid VM Store (T800 series) and are looking for an affordable "Platinum" tier of storage.

“Tintri continues to prove that VM-aware storage can do things that are simply not possible with LUN and volume based systems. We’ve added a smaller all-flash system to our line-up to extend the reach of VAS to new audiences and expanded multi-hypervisor support to include XenServer—that’s more choice for our customers,” he said.

UltraServe unveils new version of its SmartStack Platform-as-a-Service

UltraServe has launched a new version of its SmartStack Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), tailored for medium-sized organisations.

SmartStack is a scalable and resilient way to build and deploy hybris commerce platforms in the Cloud. It allows rapid provisioning, application performance dashboards, auto-scaling to meet peak demands, and operational management, amongst other features.

UltraServe general manager, Adam Chicktong, said SmartStack for mid-market meant the company no longer had to walk away from smaller sales.

“This more modular version will support websites with 250,000 visitors a month whereas our enterprise version started at 2.5 million a month. As a result, we’ve more than halved the monthly cost for midmarket companies wanting to deploy hybris, which appeals to many prospects we’re talking to in Asia, not to mention Australia.”

Chicktong added that SmartStack for mid-market delivers all the functionality of the enterprise version, tailored for a growing organisation.

“Customers can choose from four levels of support, with the flexibility to ‘spin up’ new environments as they require them. Additional benefits for system integrators deploying hybris include the ability to deploy SmartStack environments in less than 45 minutes with no downtime due to Blue-Green deployments,” he added.
