A new contract win will see services provider, HCL Technologies, partner up with business technology consulting company, Ignia, to help Western Australia’s largest energy provider, Synergy, rationalise its technology infrastructure.

The multi-year contract, awarded to HCL Technologies, will see the Western Australian arm of the multinational IT services company, provide Synergy with a range of application management services.

Under the terms of the contract, HCL Technologies is expected to transform and support Synergy’s digital and business application infrastructure, with the aim of helping the energy provider consolidate its operations in a drive to adapt to the shifting energy market.

The deal will see HCL Technologies transition, consolidate, and optimise up to 85 applications within Synergy. These applications will be tasked with delivering ongoing support for mission-critical bespoke energy and utilities applications in a flexible as-a-service model.

The arrangement will also see HCL technologies partner with Ignia to implement a range of digital services for Synergy. These include customer experience management-focused services that will be based on Sitecore software and the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

“Ignia has got a good presence in the digital side of things,” HCL Technologies’ senior vice president, Michael Horton, told ARN.

“And, we have had a good experience with partnering with smaller local companies. This is similar to what we’ve done in New Zealand, and it works very well there.

"Partnerships like this one with Ignia give us the ability – in areas where there’s been some incumbency, as with Ignia – to keep that incumbency going. It is good for the local IT industry, which we can help to foster with partnerships like this one. And, it’s been good for the relationships all around,” he said.

The contract will see Synergy’s external digital presence linked with its back-end systems – a move that is expected to deliver contextual customer engagement for the company.

According to Horton, the energy sector faces a unique climate of risk, uncertainty, and volatility, and the contract win with Synergy reflects capabilities HCL Technologies can offer players in that market.

“This contract is testament to HCL’s ability to provide services which can enhance operational efficiency, control costs, and provide a digital platform that will form a stable engine for Synergy moving forward in the new competitive environment,” said Horton.

The partnership with Ignia comes just weeks after the Perth-based managed services provider was acquired by Insight Enterprises, as part of the company's bid to boost its Asia Pacific capabilities.
